Platelet Rich Plasma

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections are a treatment that has been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a therapeutic treatment for women and men who are experiencing hair loss. PRP injections utilize a patient’s own blood to stimulate the growth of new hair, prevent future hair loss, and aid in the results and recovery related to hair transplantation surgery. 

PRP is blood plasma that is extremely concentrated and is made up of bioactive proteins and other growth factors that facilitate the process of tissue and wound healing. Scientific evidence has shown that the process of PRP injections may be effective and safe as a treatment option for individuals with female pattern baldness and male pattern baldness. PRP treatment ultimately leads to patients experiencing a drastic decrease in the level of hair loss they experienced prior to the procedure. Approximately 50% of patients who undergo PRP experience a faster regrowth of hair follicles becoming thicker and stronger. 

PRP is also beneficial as a treatment following hair transplantation surgery. PRP injections aid in healing wounds among the surgical site, while also encouraging stimulation of hair growth immediately after the hair transplantation surgery takes place. PRP can be conducted in several different ways. Typically, the hair grafts that are extracted are immersed in the concentrated plasma that is rich with platelets. PRP is also administered through injecting the plasma directly into the recipient and donor sections of the scalp itself.
